Bombas school workshops: The documentary in photography

PRACTICAL
INFORMATION

Designed and implemented by Lola Fabra and Karol Hincapié with high school students from IES Campanar

The documentary in photography, around the exhibition “Sculping Reality”, seeks to broaden visual culture and encourage a critical look at images, based on both specific and general notions of documentary-style photography, through an approach to the exhibition “Sculping Reality . The documentary style in the Per Amor a l’Art Collection”. Through a brief tour of some of the series in the exhibition, different issues of documentary-style photography are addressed, focusing finally on the work of Susan Meiselas, Carnival Strippers (1972-1975). This series is worked on from a feminist perspective, thus helping us to rethink our gaze and our analysis of current advertising images, delving deeper into them through the participants’ own creative exercise.

Lola Fabra Anton has a degree in Art History, a PhD in Contemporary Art and a Master’s degree in Photography from the University of the Basque Country. She has worked as a cataloguer of art and photography, as a teacher and is currently a technician on the UPV Master’s Degree in Photography. She also develops photographic work in the documentary field.

Karol Hincapié Villegas has a degree in Film and Digital Communication and has completed the Master’s Degree in Photography UPV. She has done children’s theatre and art direction workshops and is currently an audiovisual producer. She also develops creative work in which she combines photography, collage and embroidery.

Bombas School Wordkshops is the new programme of Bombas Gens Centre d’Art aimed at schools. In this programme, young artists and cultural agents from different academic degrees are invited to design and implement school workshops around the artistic and heritage offer of Bombas Gens Centre d’Art. Each workshop is developed in several sessions, a key element that allows to deepen in the exhibitions and heritage spaces of the place. The workshops are designed for all age groups, from infants to high school students.
